RAH 017.5 In which my sister Shari Brodsky Dies

Hi.

SShari Brodskyo, there’s really no episode this week. Just a quick explanation and a song.
Saturday, my dear sweet little sister was bugled home to jesus. She lost or perhaps won her battle with life and now there is a giant hole in my heart that I didn’t even realize she occupied. She was one of the smartest, funniest, most aggravating people I ever knew or will know and I will cherish the memory of the times, good and bad, as long as I live.
I’ll be eulogizing her at some point soon on my Facebook page and at her funeral on Sunday 2/16/14. So, if you’ll allow me the hiccup, we’re gonna skip this week’s episode. The Joey Sweeney sit down will post on 2/20 and then we’ll get rolling again.
Thanks for your understanding, now if you’ll excuse me i have to hug Queegueg uncomfortably tight and get tears all over him. Why don’t you go tell someone you love them. Maybe squeeze ’em too.
Thanks for listening. You all mean the world to me.
Adam.

RAH 017 Elise Brown

Elise BrownHello my pretties. A few days ago my old friend and Philadelphia Rock and Roll DJ Elise Brown came over to the PRHCPCS and we threw down. I learned quite a bit about Elise’s journey and so will you. Also her tale is speckled with lots of starfucker experiences including, Ben & Jerry, Jack Cassidy and of course, Mr. Zimmerman.  It was a blast as as usual, our time flew by. I hope you feel similarly. The beginning of this pod starts with me singing a tune Pete Seeger wrote in 1970 or so. Then I opine a bit about my thoughts on Pete. Truly a great man, a great American and a great human being. I’d say he would be missed, but that man’s purpose is so much bigger than one man’s life he is still tangibly with us in so many ways. I’m not gonna get all soapboxy here, but here is where you can read how I eulogized the man. Not the most eloquent things said about Pete this week, but a couple paragraphs nonetheless.

But really you should dig in and listen to Elise. Also she’s now Publicly Relating for people over at Levlane, should you need someone to make you famous. you can contact her there.
Peace out, y’all. I hope you dig. As always rate us on iTunes and stitcher and subscribe here or there and if you have comments or suggestions. fire away.
Thanks.

RAH 016 Carla Ulbrich

carla ulbrichSinger/Songwriter/Author/Professional Smart Aleck/Health Care System Navigator/Picker/Grinner Carla Ulbrich was kind enough to cruise down the turnpike, pay the bridge toll and chat with me in the PRHQPCS. We sang some songs and talked about university professors for parents and also peeing in jugs. It was a lovely chat. Then we met Deirdre Flint for dinner and D claimed she owed each of us for something and insisted on picking up the check. That part you don’t hear, it’s after, but still you should listen.
It was a goocarla ulbrich and adam brodskyd time and if you wanna buy Carla’s Books or CD’s you can go to the rainforest or to Carla’s site.
Again, Thanks for listening and downloading and all of that. Please rate us in the iTunes store and like the Facebook page, and if you see us around, hug us like you mean it.
Thanks.
Adam

RAH 015 Jon Berger

NY Antifolk poet Jon Berger came into the PRHQPCS and we went down the Antifolk Archeology Rabbit Hole. As editor of Antimatters the official Antifolk Zine, he is pretty much one of the planet’s foremost Antifolk authorities. It was nice to chat  with him about that, and lots of other stuff.

It was one of those conversations where you look down at your watch and boom, it’s dinner time. I hope you like it. As always, please give us some love on Facebook in the iTunes Store.

Also, Jon promoted a show on January 13, at DBA. the actual name of the club is 2A – on 2nd street and Avenue A.

If you wanna flip through old copies of Antimatters, do it here. Or check out Urbanfolk here.
As always, be kind to one another and support good songwriting.

RAH 014 John Byrne

John Byrne was born and raised in Dublin Ireland, but Philadelphia has been his home for almost two decades. John and his lilting brogue and his dog Frankie came over to the PRHQPCS and whilst Queequeg had a playdate downstairs, John and I talked about how to score condoms and porn in Ireland. Other stuff too.

It was, at least for me, a fascinating conversation and he sang a few songs. I hope you enjoy. Please leave feedback on iTunes or holla at the RAH Facebook page.  or on the Twitters @adambrodsky.
Also, visit John Byrne on his Facebook page or his website JohnByrneBand.com
Again thanks for digging it.

RAH 013 Butch Ross

Permanent Records Recording Artist and Mountain Dulcimer’s own Butch Ross came by the PRHQPCS and sat down and talked origin stories and songwriting and ex-girlfriends and all that stuff. He even sang a few songs, then he slept over and we bought him new front tires so’s he could make it back to Tennessee. I think there was pizza and whiskey too.

Anyway, it was fun to sit down with one of my oldest and dearest friends and reveal publicly our Lenin/McCarthy style songwriting technique.
Please enjoy and leave reviews and like stuff and snapchat pictures of this show’s boobies to each other. All the stuff that you do.
Your ears are appreciated on this end.

RAH 010 Dr. James O’Brien

It was nice to have James in town and in the PRHQPS8H. He and his lovely wife Karaugh Brown came down from Manhattan to get it goin’ Philly style. They had a nice excursion and James and I had several lovely chats, one of which we even recorded and interspersed with a couple of his songs.

Slimbooks has just published Jameseses book “The Indie Writer’s Survival Guide” which is a how-to manual for fledgling independent writers. Coincidentally, we recorded this Podcast on the same day my freelance article for The Guardian posted. Like the best Guardian articles, I give away secrets. In this case it’s the 10 best bars in Philadelphia. I would also like to let all of you know that Permanent Records has a new release on the horizon. Butch Ross is putting out a couple of records. One is dulcimerloopy and the other has songwritery songs all over it. I’m telling y’all cause his kickstarter is one worth contributing to. dig it here.
That’s about all except, enjoy the podcast and as always like the facebook page subscribe in iTunes or on Stitcher and rate us, and sent emails or tweets or just shut the fuck up and listen.
It was nice talking to you.
Adam.

RAH 009 Tom Hampton

Tom’s loverly wife was kind enough to allow date night to start a couple hours later than planned. They both came over and Tom and I went up into the PRHQPCS and talked about stuff, including all the amazing local, regional, national and international superstars with which Tom has shared stages, busses and sandwiches. We talked about his continuing colaberations with the Marshall Tucker Band and Danny Kortchmar’s name got drug into it. We even remembered (eventually) to play a few songs.

Please enjoy.
